Labor Induction

Acupuncture for Labor Induction

Dr. Christina has extra training in helping women progress the labor of their baby easier. She worked at Lutheran Hospital in Brooklyn, New York learning how to work with medical staff to safely ease pregnancy labor. Although the use of acupuncture will not force labor such as Pitocin does, the goal is to stimulate natural oxytocin to progress labor. Acupuncture can also help soften the cervix and progress effacement, stimulate regular uterine contractions, increase fetal engagement and progress station and appropriate fetal positioning, and keep mom and baby calm, happy and safe!

We use a variety of techniques including acupuncture, electrical stimulation, cupping, moxibustion, medical massage, infrared heat, and stretches. These techniques are very safe for both mom and baby. However, because these techniques are mildly stimulating, labor induction is not always guaranteed. We suggest planning to come in for three acupuncture sessions in three days for best results. It is recommended to be cleared by your Doctor, Midwife, or Obstetrician before deeming safe. You must be 37 weeks or later in pregnancy to be considered for an induction. Most of the time when acupuncture labor inductions are given, the woman will go into labor about 8 hours or so after the treatment is finished. Each patient responds differently. Please call for any other questions.

Acupuncture for pregnancy related complications

If you are less than 37 weeks pregnant and experiencing symptoms or complications, acupuncture can still be a great option for you! Schedule for a Medical Acupuncture appointment. We treat anything from breached position of the baby, preeclampsia or high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, morning sickness, insomnia, back, neck, hip or foot pain, acid reflux, emotional disturbances, colds and flus and many others. Acupuncture is very safe at any stage of your pregnancy. We can also help navigate which herbs and medications are safe for you.
